Crews welcome rain in the fight against Long Lake Wildfire

Crews Battling Long Lake Wildfire Complex to Receive Rainfall Assistance
Crews fighting against the Long Lake Wildfire complex will get some help this afternoon, because rain is predicted for Annapolis County.
The fire is estimated at 8,234 hectares and stays out of hand.
Environment Canada predicts two to four millimeters of rain starting at noon with two to four millimeters expected in the evening.
Last weekend Jim Rudderham, director of fleet and forest protection, said Long-term rain is needed to have a significant impact on the size of the fire, but only 10 millimeters can help support crews.
“Nice, stable, soft rain for a few days is what we are looking for. But again, we will take it,” he said.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) of the province says that there were no new reports of damage at night.
On August 24, the fire was considerably fed by dry, hot conditions and heavy wind, destroying 20 houses.
“It was devastating news, and our hearts were broken for those who lost their houses in the Wildfire West-Dalhousie. These were not only structures, they were places full of memories, comfort, and meaning,” said Diane Leblanc, Warden, County of Annapolis.
Another 11 structures, including garages and barns, were also damaged. The damage to each structure varied.
DNR says that all means work on fire breaks around the circumference, including dozer guards, snakes, and pumps.
“Aircraft that bring down hotspots make it safe for ground plowing to work. Since sections of the circumference” tied up “or” knotted “with fire breaks, external crews to combat the fire,” the department wrote in a message about X.
Rain is expected to stop on Sunday morning with widespread smoke that covers the area. Annapolis County remains under the warning of the air quality.
The province has burning restrictions for some parts of the province, but they remain prohibited for Annapolis County.
The temperatures for Sunday are expected to reach a peak of 19 °C and return to 26 °C by Monday.
