Duchess of Edinburgh visits Spruce Meadows and the Youth Centres of Calgary

The Duchess of Edinburgh, Sophie, made a special visit to one of the Youth Centres of Calgary supported by Spruce Meadows on Friday. This visit was part of her itinerary to learn more about the organizations supported by the Spruce Meadows Leg Up Foundation.

During her time at the Youth Centre, the Duchess engaged in various activities with the youth, including playing games and interacting with the kids. One of the highlights was a game of Uno, where she faced off against young Miia Martynova. Despite her best efforts, the Duchess ended up losing the game to Miia, who was thrilled to have bested royalty in a friendly match.

In addition to playing games, Sophie also took the time to shoot some hoops with Marley Lostuk and Sierra Boltwood. The kids were impressed by her basketball skills, especially when she managed to score a basket during their friendly game. They described the Duchess as a “super nice lady” and were grateful for the opportunity to meet a member of British Royalty.

The visit to the Youth Centre provided the Duchess with a chance to connect with the youth and learn more about the important work being done to support young people in Calgary. Her presence was greatly appreciated by both the staff and the kids, who enjoyed spending time with her and getting to know her better.

Overall, the Duchess of Edinburgh’s visit to the Youth Centre was a memorable experience for everyone involved. Her genuine interest in the well-being of the youth and her willingness to engage with them in various activities left a lasting impression on all those who had the privilege of meeting her.
