Former Gov. Cuomo touts fundraising in campaign to oust New York City Mayor Adams

Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is making waves in the race for New York City mayor with his impressive fundraising efforts. Despite his resignation in 2021 amid multiple scandals, Cuomo has managed to raise over $1.51 million in just 13 days since announcing his candidacy for mayor.
According to his campaign, this fundraising total is unprecedented and comes from 2,821 supporters. Additionally, more than a quarter of the money raised will be eligible for public matching funds, pending approval from the New York City Campaign Finance Board.
Cuomo’s entry into the already crowded mayoral race has shaken things up, with New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams raising $128,000 in the first five days of her campaign, which falls short of qualifying for matching funds. As candidates scramble to report their fundraising and spending ahead of the deadline, Cuomo has emerged as the clear frontrunner in the polls.
Thanks to his widespread name recognition and the support of a well-financed super PAC, Cuomo has maintained his lead in the polls. His rivals are now focusing on his political baggage, including 11 sexual harassment accusations and allegations of mishandling the COVID pandemic during his time as governor. Despite these challenges, Cuomo’s frontrunner status remains unshaken.
On the other hand, incumbent Mayor Eric Adams is facing his own set of issues, with sinking poll numbers and an indictment on bribery and fraud charges. Adams’ alleged connections to former President Donald Trump and questionable dealings with the Justice Department have further tarnished his reputation.
As the race heats up ahead of the June 24 Democratic primary, all eyes are on Cuomo and Adams. With Cuomo’s fundraising prowess and frontrunner status, and Adams’ legal troubles and sinking popularity, the race for New York City mayor promises to be a highly contested and dramatic affair. Stay tuned for more updates as the candidates continue to campaign for the city’s top job.
