N.B. news: Maugerville nurse wins ‘Set for Life’ lottery
A nurse from New Brunswick is celebrating a life-changing win after striking gold with a $675,000 lottery prize last month.
Mariette Cleven, a resident of Maugerville, N.B., purchased her winning Set for Life ticket on a fateful Friday the 13th of December, 2024.
While engaged in conversation with her brother over the phone, Cleven discovered her stroke of luck as she scratched off the winning ticket.
“He mentioned that he usually only wins a few dollars when buying tickets,” Cleven shared in a statement released by Atlantic Lottery. “Shortly after our call ended, I unveiled ‘Set for Life.’
Excitedly, Cleven wasted no time and promptly shared the news with her brother and daughter by sending them a photo of the winning ticket.
Set for Life is a $4 Scratch’N Win ticket that presents winners with two options for their prize – a weekly payout of $1,000 for 25 years or a lump sum of $675,000. Cleven opted for the lump sum payment.
“I still can’t believe it,” Cleven expressed. “We didn’t have much before, so the thought of all this money coming in is overwhelming.”
With her newfound financial security, Cleven intends to use the funds to support her children’s education and embark on travel adventures to destinations like the Magdalen Islands, Iceland, and the Netherlands.
Although she plans to continue working, Cleven is considering retiring a few years earlier than originally planned.
“Being a single parent was tough for a long time,” Cleven reflected. “The first half of my life was a struggle, but the second half is looking really bright.”
Cleven purchased her winning ticket from the Oromocto Plaza Lotto Booth in Oromocto, N.B., which will be awarded a one per cent seller’s prize.
