A gondola accident in the resort village of Mont-Tremblant, about 105 kilometers northwest of Montreal, left one person dead and another in critical condition, according to provincial police.
Shortly before noon on Sunday, a piece of construction equipment at a construction site hit the gondola, which was halfway between the base of the mountain and the mountaintop, said Sgt. Éric Cadotte, spokesman for the Sûreté du Québec.
“The gondola did not collapse, but the force of the impact knocked the two people out of the gondola and they fell several feet to the ground,” he said.
Police are on the scene to investigate the incident.
On Facebook, the Tremblant Resort Association announced the cancellation of its remaining blues music festival activities.
