Fishing Vessel Capsizes Near Halifax, One Person Missing
Tragedy struck near Halifax on Thursday night as a fishing vessel capsized, leaving one person missing and three others brought to shore. The vessel in question has been identified as the 18-metre Fortune Pride, according to CBC News.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Halifax sprang into action after receiving an emergency beacon signal around 10 p.m. The distress call originated approximately 18 kilometres southeast of Sambro, N.S.
Multiple response teams were deployed to assist in the rescue efforts, including two coast guard vessels – the CCGS Hare Bay and the CCGS Sir William Alexander. A Cormorant helicopter and a Hercules fixed-wing aircraft were also mobilized to aid in the search and rescue mission.
The CCGS Hare Bay managed to rescue three individuals from the water, with two of them conscious and the third unconscious. All three were promptly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Lt.-Cmdr. Len Hickey, the senior public affairs officer at JRCC, confirmed that the search for the missing person is ongoing. One of the coast guard vessels remains at the scene, while the aircraft is scheduled to return for further assistance.
