16-year-old arrested after placing threatening photo online

Youth Arrested for Making Threats Towards School in Middle Sackville
Authorities have taken action against a youth who made alarming threats towards students and staff at a school in Middle Sackville. The incident unfolded on 2 September when the RCMP received a report regarding an online post that contained threats directed at the school community.
It was revealed that the youth had posted a photo of themselves holding what appeared to be a firearm, along with menacing messages aimed at the staff and students. Upon investigation, it was determined that the weapon in question was actually an Airsoft gun.
The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended at a residence and now faces charges related to possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Following the arrest, the individual was released on certain conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later time.
Importance of Responsible Social Media Use
The RCMP is urging individuals, especially teenagers and young adults, to exercise caution and discretion when sharing content online. Constable Mandy Edwards, Public Information Officer with RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment, emphasized the need for thoughtful consideration before posting anything that could be construed as a threat.
“Think before posting,” warns CST. Mandy Edwards. “A seemingly harmless social media post meant to impress others could have serious legal repercussions.”
