Two Arrested in Collingwood for Spree of Vehicle Thefts Over Christmas Holiday

Police in Collingwood, Ont., have apprehended two individuals in connection with a series of thefts from vehicles that occurred between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day. The suspects, facing a total of 37 charges stemming from 19 separate incidents, allegedly targeted unlocked vehicles in the town, making off with various items such as gift cards, cash, bank cards, and tools, according to a statement released by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on Friday.

During the crime spree, the accused individuals reportedly even stole a vehicle and used stolen bank cards to purchase gas. The thefts prompted an investigation by law enforcement following multiple reports from residents in Collingwood over the holiday period.

Thanks to assistance from the public, the two suspects, aged 30 and 33, were apprehended by patrolling officers in the town on Thursday. However, during the arrest, one of the individuals attempted to evade capture and allegedly assaulted an officer, though no injuries were sustained.

Both men were scheduled to appear at a bail hearing on Friday morning. The charges they face include theft under $5,000, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, assault of a peace officer, and evading police. The suspect who attempted to flee was swiftly recaptured without further incident, as confirmed by law enforcement.
