21-year-old charged with murder in 2024 death of Annapolis County man

After an extensive investigation spanning nearly five months, Nova Scotia RCMP have announced that a 21-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the sudden death of a 66-year-old man last August.

According to a news release from the police, Samuel Isaac Robar of Bear River, N.S., was taken into custody on Wednesday morning at a property on Mary Jane Riley Road in Bear River. The deceased individual was discovered at a residence on Virginia Road in Virginia East, approximately 15 kilometers south of Annapolis Royal, on August 31, 2024.

Following the discovery of the deceased individual, police launched a homicide investigation the next day. The investigation into the matter involved examining six different crime scenes and conducting interviews with over 100 individuals. Assistance in the investigation was provided by multiple RCMP detachments in Nova Scotia, as well as RCMP units in Newfoundland and Labrador, Alberta, and Prince Edward Island.

Robar made an appearance in court on Thursday morning and is currently being held in custody. His next court appearance is scheduled for January 30 at Digby provincial court.

The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving many residents concerned about the safety and security of their neighborhood. The RCMP have assured the public that they are committed to ensuring justice is served and are urging anyone with additional information to come forward.
