3 children, 1 man in hospital after fire at duplex in Lower Sackville
A tragic incident unfolded in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, as a fire engulfed a duplex on Riverside Drive, leaving four individuals hospitalized. Among the victims were three children and one adult, who sustained injuries in the blaze. Fortunately, two other occupants managed to escape unharmed.
Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency responded swiftly to the emergency call, dispatching ten units to the scene at approximately 3:12 a.m. District Chief Robert Hebb described the situation as harrowing, with firefighters rescuing the injured parties from the burning building.
A 40-year-old man, who was rescued by a courageous neighbor, remains in critical condition at the hospital. Additionally, three young children aged five, six, and nine were safely evacuated by firefighters and transported to the hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a 37-year-old woman and a two-year-old child were able to exit the premises independently, escaping unscathed.
The firefighting crews battled the flames for over two and a half hours, working tirelessly to contain the blaze and prevent further damage. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the RCMP, as authorities seek to determine the circumstances that led to this devastating incident.
