CLEARLAND, N.S. — A 34-year-old woman was airlifted to a hospital with life-threatening injuries after a head-on crash in Clearland, Lunenburg County, on Sunday.

RCMP and other emergency personnel were called to the two-vehicle incident on Highway 103 at about 9:30 a.m., where two SUVs — a Ford Edge and a Volvo XC40— travelling in opposite directions had collided head-on.

The driver and sole occupant of the Ford, a Simms Settlement woman, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by Lifeflight.

The Volvo’s driver, a 68-year-old Sydney woman, and her passenger, a Howie Centre woman, 79, suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to hospital by EHS, with the Sydney woman later transferred to Halifax.

An RCMP collision reconstructionist attended the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
