5th person charged in killing of Halifax teen Devon Marsman

A fifth individual has been implicated in the case surrounding the disappearance and tragic death of a young Halifax teenager over three years ago. Devon Sinclair Marsman was last seen on February 24, 2022, in the Spryfield area of Halifax before being reported missing on March 4, 2022. Halifax Regional Police have revealed that 40-year-old Mark Douglas Robert Doyle was apprehended on Thursday morning and charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Doyle was set to appear in Halifax provincial court on Friday.
Previously, Treyton Alexander Marsman, aged 26, was charged with second-degree murder, indignity to human remains, and obstruction of justice. Additionally, a 20-year-old man is facing charges of accessory after the fact to murder and obstructing justice, though his identity remains protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act due to his status as a minor at the time of the crime. Emma Maria Meta Casey, 23, is also facing charges of accessory after the fact to murder, indignity to human remains, and obstructing justice. Furthermore, Chelsey Herritt, 26, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and indignity to human remains.
Last September, police confirmed that remains discovered were indeed those of Marsman. The exact location where the remains were found has not been disclosed due to ongoing court proceedings. Chief Don MacLean stated during a news conference in September that there is a family connection between Devon Marsman and Treyton Marsman, though he did not provide further details.
Devon Marsman’s family has been steadfast in their pursuit of justice for him. A rally was held on what would have been his 18th birthday in October 2023, urging authorities to intensify their efforts in uncovering the truth behind the teenager’s disappearance. Initially, law enforcement stated that there were no indications of foul play in Marsman’s case. However, after almost eight months, they publicly declared the disappearance as suspicious and later classified his death as a homicide.
In November 2022, Nova Scotia’s Department of Justice offered a reward of up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Marsman’s disappearance. This reward was subsequently increased to $250,000 in April. Anyone possessing information related to the homicide is urged to contact the police at 902-490-5020.
The community continues to demand justice for Devon Marsman as the investigation unfolds and additional individuals are brought to justice in connection with his tragic fate.
