Halifax Regional Police have reported a disturbing incident where a six-year-old child has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed multiple times in downtown Halifax.

Halifax Regional Police received a distressing call on Sunday afternoon regarding a 6-year-old child found with severe injuries from multiple stab wounds in the 1900 block of Barrington Street. The child was swiftly transported to the IWK Health Centre by ambulance for urgent medical care.

At the scene, a 19-year-old woman, who is not believed to have any prior connection to the child, was apprehended by authorities for aggravated assault.

Law enforcement officials are urging individuals who may have captured video footage around the time of the incident to reach out to them promptly.

An active investigation is currently underway to gather more information and determine the circumstances surrounding this harrowing event.
