80 Teslas damaged at Hamilton dealership, largest car vandalism reported in Canada against the U.S. company

A shocking incident occurred at a Tesla dealership on the Hamilton Mountain, where dozens of vehicles were vandalized, making it the largest reported vehicle vandalism against the U.S.-based car company in Canada.

Hamilton Police Service responded to a call near Lime Ridge Mall and discovered over 80 Tesla vehicles parked outdoors had been damaged. The damage included deep scratches and punctured tires, leaving the dealership in disarray.

This act of vandalism is not an isolated incident, as Tesla vehicles and dealerships in both Canadian and U.S. cities have been targeted by vandals. This surge in attacks coincided with U.S. President Donald Trump appointing Tesla CEO Elon Musk to oversee the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has led to drastic cuts in government spending and programs.

In London, Ontario, a suspicious fire broke out in a parking lot where a 2025 four-door Tesla Model S was engulfed in flames. Although no injuries were reported, the estimated damage costs amounted to $140,000. Additionally, in Montreal, two activists were arrested for spray painting the outside of a Tesla dealership, with a climate group claiming responsibility and urging Canada to “stand up” against Musk, whom they accused of “destroying democracies and spreading climate denial.”

The backlash against Tesla has even impacted events like the Vancouver auto show, which removed Teslas from its lineup due to safety concerns.

Hamilton police are actively investigating the dealership vandalism, treating it as a series of mischiefs. They are currently reviewing CCTV footage and seeking assistance from the public to identify the perpetrators. Despite reaching out to Tesla for comment, CBC Hamilton has not received a response.
