Mayor of Manitoba’s Western Community says the outpouring of support is appreciated
DAUPHIN, Man. – The mood remains sombre in Dauphin, Man., as local residents hear more details about a highway crash that killed 15 people and injured 10.
Mayor David Bosiak says people are sad and the effect on the city and the surrounding area will be for generations.
He adds that residents appreciate the support and condolences that have poured in from across Canada as the mourning continues.
Those statements come, among others, from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who said that Canadians support the victims of the crash.
A moment of silence was held Friday night prior to the Canadian Football League game between the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Bosiak says he expects a decision to be made on Monday on whether to hold a formal vigil or other public event.
Over the weekend, a support center for families of those involved in the crash will continue to operate at the community curling rink.
RCMP is still investigating the fiery crash Thursday between a transport truck and a minibus transporting senior citizens from the Dauphin area to a casino near Carberry, Manitoba, about two hours away.
The truck was traveling east on the Trans-Canada Highway when the minibus crossed south at an intersection, RCMP said Friday.
Investigators have not yet spoken to the driver of the bus, who remains in hospital with nine other survivors.
