Worker dies in accident at Montreal airport after trying to untie luggage

MONTREAL – An employee was killed in an accident at the airport of Montreal on Saturday.

The employee worked for Equans, a company that provides technical services to airports, including baggage handling systems and power grids.

Antoine Leclerc-Loiselle, a spokesman for Quebec’s health and safety council, says an employee responsible for baggage handling fell early Saturday afternoon after trying to detach a suitcase from a device – possibly a conveyor belt.

Montreal Airport says it is working with partners to coordinate support resources and other assistance for personnel who witnessed the incident.

In a statement, airport director Philippe Rainville expressed his condolences to relatives and colleagues.

The Security Council says two inspectors visited the site to meet with witnesses and gather information about the circumstances of the accident.
