International students in fake offer letters are now getting work permits
Last updated July 13, 2023, 8:35 AM EDT (Toronto time)
4 out of 18 international students who had no status and protested their deportation in a case of bogus offer letters received approval for a 3-year open work permit from IRCC.
This latest update on international students being deported is confirmed by the Sky Immigration team led by Amardeep Singh and Ravi Ganger.
Kudos to the Sky Immigration team who have led the protest against the unjust decision of innocent international students from the front since the beginning.
Even the immigration minister agreed that these international students are victims of fraud who were unwittingly targeted by fraudulent agents.
Amardeep confirms that individual interviews have not yet started with the special IRCC task force announced by the Immigration Minister to end their protest.
However, four of the international students have already received open work permit approvals and the rest of the students are expected to receive their approval soon.

He said documents from these students, including passports, are still with CBSA and they will have to review if there are any special conditions on the work permit document.
These international students will now have to present their case on an individual basis before the special task force formed by IRCC.
Students who will demonstrate that they have completed their intention to study in Canada are expected to receive further exemption from deportation.
On June 14, 2023, Immigration Secretary Sean Fraser exercised his “discretionary power” and temporarily halted the impending deportation of students in a case of bogus offer letters.
But he made it clear that foreign students who deliberately participated in this scam will still be sent back to their home countries.
Brijesh Mishra arrested in Canada
Brijesh Mishra (primarily accused immigration officer) was arrested by the CBSA on June 14, 2023, as he attempted to enter Canada through the US land border.
He was reported to have been in Canada since October 2022, even though his visitor visa had been revoked over charges of “ghost consultation.”
He crossed the border from the United States into Canada through the Port of Entry in Douglas on the Washington State border.
Since then he lived with five other people in a rented house in Surrey, British Columbia.
Mishra went to the US via land border (target unknown) and was arrested on June 14, 2023 on the way back.
He said allegations of fraudulent documents against him are bogus and he was never involved in any such scam.
In a request from Mishra’s lawyer, they argued that there is no court record supporting his client’s arrest in May 2013.
The lawyer said that Mishra could not be in India at the time because his papers showed that he was working in Australia.
Regarding the government’s allegation that Mishra was involved in organized crime, Mishra’s lawyer said that the only evidence the government had was a news report stating that the man was wanted by the local police for various crimes.
“Just because he’s being charged doesn’t mean Mr. Mishra has done anything illegal himself. He could have. All he could have done was properly issue documents and prepare papers for applications without lying,” Mishra’s lawyer told the tribunal.
Mishra said he had not seen his young child in India since moving to Canada in October, and they had only talked through Whatsapp video calls, which is not allowed in the CBSA detention center.
He also told the tribunal that he wants to be removed from Canada as soon as possible and asked if he could just buy his ticket and fly back to India.
