Saskatchewan legislator targeted in alleged racketeering attempt

REGINA — A member of the Saskatchewan legislature says he was the target of an alleged extortion attempt.

Gary Grewal says he will not be commenting further on the case as it is now in court.

Regina police have arrested and charged a man for the alleged racketeering.

Police say it happened in January when a man asked the Saskatchewan Party MLA to support him in a local political election process.

Police say Grewal refused to offer his support, leading the man to allegedly threaten personal and professional harm to the MLA.

The suspect appeared before the Regina Provincial Court.
