New Glasgow Farmers Market relaunches ‘Raise the Barn’ fundraiser.

NEW GLASGOW, N.S. — The New Glasgow Farmers Market is relaunching their “Raise the Barn” fundraiser to build a new year-round structure that will replace the current seasonal dome.

Kristi Russel, manager of the Farmers Market, made the announcement Saturday morning.

“The new building will offer additional space to accommodate even more local farmers, artisans and food vendors,” Russel stated. “This will not only empower small businesses but also provide our community with greater access to fresh local agricultural products and unique hand-crafted goods.”

The completion of the project will ensure that the farmers market will be able to continue to support the community.

“Once completed, our community will benefit from increased community, food security and accessibility,” Russel said.

Nancy Dicks, Mayor of New Glasgow, also spoke to the significance of the farmers market to the community.

“This ambitious project is not just about a new building. The farmer’s market is a beloved community space that encourages inclusivity, entrepreneurship and bringing people together.”

Not only will the new structure benefit the Farmer’s Market, but it will also provide a space for events and cultural activities.

“It is the hard work and generosity of community organizations and various levels of government that we pave the way for this even brighter future for the market,” Dicks said.

The first Raise the Barn project was announced in 2018. Its goal was similar – to build a structure that would allow vendors to offer their good and services year-round.
