Kings County man charged with attempted murder after New Minas stabbing
A New Minas man has been charged with attempted murder after a stabbing in the community early Thursday morning.
RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Marshall said two men were in a wooded area off Crescent Drive at about 1:40 a.m. when they got into a physical altercation and one of them stabbed the other.
He said he couldn’t comment on what they were doing at the time, but they were known to each other.
He said the 19-year-old victim yelled that he had been stabbed and someone camping in the area heard the commotion and called 911.
As police were responding to the scene the victim made his way out of the woods to a nearby home. He suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital in Kentville before being flown to Halifax for further treatment.
About 90 minutes later, as police were still searching for the suspect, he contacted police through a third person and made arrangements to surrender to them. He was arrested and taken to the RCMP office in New Minas.
Shawn MacFadyen, 41, of New Minas, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was scheduled to appear in Kentville provincial court Thursday.
