Enfield man elects Supreme Court trial on sexual assault charges
An Enfield man has elected to be tried by a Nova Scotia Supreme Court judge alone on three counts of sexual assault involving the same woman.
RCMP allege Robert Moulton, 61, committed the offences March 18 at his home on Carriage Lane.
The incident was reported to East Hants RCMP on April 21. Investigators met with the complainant, who alleged she had been sexually assaulted while sleeping.
Moulton was arrested April 24 and released on an undertaking to police with conditions. He was arraigned in Shubenacadie provincial court June 26.
Lawyer Leora Lawson appeared in provincial court on behalf of Moulton on July 31 and made the election to Supreme Court.
Lawson is expected to enter not-guilty pleas for Moulton in Supreme Court in Truro on Sept. 5 and set trial dates.
There’s a publication ban on the identity of the complainant. According to Moulton’s undertaking, he cannot have any contact with the woman and must stay away from her residence and any other addresses associated with her.
He also is required to leave any place the woman frequents as soon as he sees her there.
