Mulgrave Road Theatre gets $500,000 for new community and performance centre in Guysborough, N.S.

GUYSBOROUGH, N.S. — Mulgrave Road Theatre in Guysborough has received a $500,000 boost from the provincial government to create a carbon-neutral community and performance centre.

The theatre will use the funding to expand and upgrade the former Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation building in Guysborough. The facility will feature solar heat, LED lighting, energy-efficient heating and cooling systems and be designed to conserve water and use solar energy to generate electricity.

Founded in 1976, Mulgrave Road Theatre has produced over 75 new Canadian productions.

“We’re so grateful to the government of Nova Scotia for this tremendous contribution, one that allows us to be not only cultural leaders but also environmental leaders, and moves us closer to making our vision a reality for the people of our community and our region,” said Emmy Alcorn, the theatre’s artistic director.

The province expects the project to be finished by March 2026.
