Enfield man will stand trial in November 2024 on sexual assault charges

An Enfield man will stand trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court in Truro 14 months from now on three charges of sexual assault involving the same woman.

RCMP allege Robert Moulton, 61, committed the offences March 18 at his home on Carriage Lane.

The incident was reported to East Hants RCMP on April 21. Investigators met with the complainant, who alleged she had been sexually assaulted while sleeping.

Moulton was arrested April 24 and released on an undertaking to police with conditions. He was arraigned in Shubenacadie provincial court in June.

During a July appearance in provincial court, defence lawyer Leora Lawson said her client was electing to be tried in Supreme Court by a judge alone.

Lawson entered not-guilty pleas for Moulton on Tuesday, when she appeared in Supreme Court by phone on his behalf.

Justice Jeffrey Hunt scheduled the trial for three days beginning Nov. 18, 2024.

A pre-trial conference will be held next month. Lawson and Crown attorney Jillian Fage will discuss issues with the judge at that time, including whether there are any matters that will require pre-trial applications.

The identity of the complainant is protected by a publication ban. According to Moulton’s undertaking to police, he cannot have any contact with the woman and must stay away from her residence and any other addresses associated with her.

He’s also required to leave any place the woman frequents immediately upon seeing her there.
