Schools closed across N.S. as snowy nor’easter blows through province
Public schools across Nova Scotia are closed Monday as January’s last weather hurrah brought a snowy nor’easter into the region overnight.
And there will be enough of the white stuff to make snow sculptures.
SaltWire weather specialist Allister Aalders said Sunday that much of the province can expect 10-15 centimetres of snow with pockets of 15-20 cm. Wind gusts of 40 to over 70 km/h will lead to blowing snow and reduced visibility.
The snow is expected to ease near noon over southwestern areas, through to Halifax and toward evening for the east.
All public schools, including Conseil scolaire acadien provincial schools, are closed Monday.
Saint Mary’s, Dalhousie University (Halifax and Truro campuses) and Mount Saint Vincent universities are also closed for the day.
The Nova Scotia Community College has closed all of its campuses.
In Halifax, many municipal recreation facilities will delay opening until at least noon and Monday’s curbside waste collection has been rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 3. Municipal offices will open at 10 a.m.
