Ella Emhoff rejects accusations she is losing her mind over stepmother’s presidency loss

Vice President Kamala Harris’ stepdaughter Ella Emhoff recently took to Instagram to address the emotional outburst she experienced following her stepmother’s loss to President-elect Donald Trump. Emhoff was captured sobbing while Harris delivered her concession speech at her alma mater, Howard University.

In a post on Instagram the following day, Emhoff reposted one of the photos and explained her emotional reaction in the caption. She wrote, “Truly no words. We are all going to get through this. It just [f—ing] hurts like a [b—-] right now and that’s ok.”

Emhoff wanted to clarify rumors that she was having a mental breakdown and had been checked into a hospital. She set the record straight by stating, “There’s a rumor about me having a mental breakdown and getting checked into a hospital. Not true. Also f–k you if you’re out there spreading that. There’s nothing wrong with showing emotion and crying. Anyone who says there is probably needs a good cry.”

She reassured her followers that she was not ashamed of struggling with mental health issues, emphasizing that she had spent her time since Election Day playing fetch with her dog Jerry. Emhoff also shared her thoughts on her mental well-being on her Substack.

Despite the controversy surrounding her, particularly her support for a Palestinian fundraiser for humanitarian aid via the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, Emhoff remains unapologetic. The Biden Administration had cut off funding to the program in January over alleged participation in an attack on October 7.

Emhoff’s openness about her emotions and mental health journey serves as a reminder that it is important to prioritize self-care and to destigmatize discussions around mental health. Through her candid posts, she encourages others to embrace vulnerability and seek support when needed.
