Trucking exec ‘hopeful’ as Trump EPA takes on blue-state emissions regs

Truckers are feeling optimistic about the future of the auto industry under President Donald Trump after what they describe as years of neglect under the Biden administration. Mike Kucharski, co-owner and vice president of JKC Trucking, expressed his hopefulness in an interview with Fox News Digital, citing the Trump administration’s rollback of Biden-era regulations mandating the sale of more electric vehicles (EVs).

One of the key issues that truckers have been concerned about is California’s stringent emissions standards, including the Advanced Clean Trucks regulation, which requires truck manufacturers to sell more zero-emission heavy-duty trucks. However, in a move that has been welcomed by the industry, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sent the waiver allowing California to enforce these standards to Congress for review.

Kucharski emphasized the importance of a national approach to these regulations, stating that California should not dictate emissions standards for the entire country. He pointed out the challenges that truckers face in adopting electric vehicles, such as the lack of infrastructure and the practicality of charging a large fleet of electric big-rig trucks.

The trucking executive highlighted the financial burden that these strict regulations impose on truckers, especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his hope that the Trump administration will prioritize the interests of American truckers and work towards reviving the economy.

As the EPA shifts its focus away from green energy mandates, Kucharski outlined three key issues that truckers hope to see addressed under the Trump administration: overregulation, the cost of diesel, and achieving energy independence. He expressed confidence that the administration’s policies will benefit the industry and help truckers navigate the challenges they face.

Overall, truckers are looking forward to a brighter future under the Trump administration, with a renewed sense of optimism and hope for the industry. The shift away from strict regulations and a focus on practical solutions to the challenges facing truckers are seen as positive steps towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for the auto industry.
