Islamist revolutionary newspaper pushes assassinating Trump

The Kayhan newspaper, widely considered the voice of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, recently published a threatening article stoking a targeted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The article, written in Persian, warned that revenge for the killing of Iranian regime terrorist Lt. Gen. Qassem Soleimani would soon be exacted on Trump. Soleimani was eliminated in a drone strike ordered by Trump in January 2020.

The article in Kayhan, edited by Hossein Shariatmadari, a personal representative of Khamenei, comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and the United States. Trump has vowed to launch bombing attacks against Iran if they do not dismantle their nuclear program. The Trump administration has accused Iran of overseeing the deaths of over 600 American military personnel.

Jason Brodsky, the policy director of United Against Nuclear Iran, condemned the threats made in the Kayhan article, calling for the U.S. to impose sanctions on the newspaper and its editor. Brodsky emphasized that negotiations with Iran should only proceed if the regime halts its plots to harm American citizens.

Beni Sabti, an expert on Iran, pointed out that the Iranian regime is using threats against Trump as a propaganda tool to unite the world against the former president. Sabti compared the situation to the attempted assassination of author Salman Rushdie, who faced death threats from Iran over his book, “The Satanic Verses.”

The Justice Department recently revealed that it had thwarted an Iranian plot to assassinate Trump in the weeks leading up to the election. The Iranian regime has been relentless in its pursuit of revenge against Trump since the killing of Soleimani. Iranian-produced animated videos depicting the targeted assassination of Trump have circulated online.

While Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has expressed willingness to engage in talks with the U.S., he emphasized the need for trust-building measures. The White House has not responded to Iran’s rejection of talks, but indirect negotiations remain a possibility.

In conclusion, the threats made by the Kayhan newspaper reflect the deep animosity between Iran and the U.S., with the Iranian regime continuing to seek revenge for the killing of Soleimani. The situation remains tense, with the possibility of further escalation in the future.
