A decade after the gripping 2015 playoff run, Blue Jays great Bautista sees similarities with 2025 team

Toronto Blue Jays Legend José Bautista Sees Similarities Between Past and Present Teams

As the Toronto Blue Jays gear up for their postseason push in 2025, club legend José Bautista sees similarities between the current squad and the team that captivated the nation in 2015.

During a recent visit to Toronto to debut his Dominican coffee brand Bella Aldea, Bautista couldn’t help but notice the familiar buzz surrounding the team.

The former slugger, who played a key role in the Blue Jays’ playoff run in 2015, believes that this year’s team shares a sense of unity and camaraderie that mirrors his own star-studded group from the past.

“I think the vibe around the city and team is pretty close to 2015. The team got along together great, and it looks like this group has that same chemistry,” Bautista told CBC Sports.

The 2015 Blue Jays, featuring stars like Edwin Encarnación and Josh Donaldson, ended a long playoff drought for the franchise. Although they fell short in the ALCS, the team captured the hearts of fans across Canada.

Bautista, now 44, believes that the current team, with its impressive 81-59 record, has what it takes to make a deep playoff run and potentially challenge for a championship.

Bautista Reflects on Iconic Bat Flip Moment

As the 10-year anniversary of his iconic bat flip during the 2015 ALDS approaches, Bautista fondly remembers the moment that has become synonymous with Blue Jays history.

“It was an amazing moment for the franchise. I was lucky enough to be the guy at the plate, and we’re still talking about it 10 years later,” Bautista said.

While he cherishes the memory, Bautista is open to seeing another Blue Jays player create a moment even bigger than his own bat flip this October.

Playoff Hopes and Predictions

With a pivotal series against the Yankees on the horizon, the Blue Jays hold a four and a half-game lead in the AL East standings. Bautista believes that barring injuries, the team is well-positioned for a strong finish to the season.

Looking ahead to the playoffs, Bautista made a bold prediction that all Blue Jays fans will hope comes true.

“I’m not a betting man, but if I was, I’d bet on the Blue Jays. A little bit of luck and some good health is all you need. Hopefully, we’ll see a championship here in Toronto,” Bautista said.

As the regular season winds down and the postseason looms, Blue Jays fans can only hope that Bautista’s optimism translates into success on the field. With the memories of 2015 fueling their drive, this year’s team is poised to make a run at glory.
