A$AP Rocky’s friend testifies that the rapper fired prop gun in 2021 shooting
A$AP Rocky’s trial in Los Angeles took a surprising turn on Friday when his longtime friend and collaborator, A$AP Twelvvy, testified that the hip-hop star had fired a starter pistol during a scuffle with a former friend in 2021. This testimony is crucial for Rocky’s defence against two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, which could result in a sentence of up to 24 years in prison if convicted.
Twelvvy, whose real name is Jamel Phillips, revealed that Rocky often carried the starter pistol as a prop and had been seen with it on multiple occasions. He also mentioned that the accuser, A$AP Relli, knew the pistol was fake when Rocky first pulled it out, as he reportedly told Rocky to “shoot that fake-ass gun.”
All four men involved in the incident – Rocky, Twelvvy, Relli, and A$AP Illz – were members of the A$AP Mob, a group of musicians and creators that originated in a New York high school nearly two decades ago. While all four were part of the crew, Rocky emerged as a major mainstream success in the early 2010s with two No. 1 albums and multiple Grammy nominations.
Twelvvy’s testimony shed light on the events leading up to the altercation, highlighting Rocky’s concerns for his safety due to a previous stabbing incident involving both Rocky and Twelvvy in a New York club in 2018. He recalled seeing Rocky with the starter pistol on three separate occasions leading up to the 2021 fight, emphasizing that Rocky viewed it as a form of self-defence.
During the trial, conflicting testimonies emerged regarding the sequence of events. While Relli claimed that Rocky pointed the gun at him, Twelvvy testified that Rocky only pulled it out but did not aim it at anyone. The altercation escalated when Relli allegedly attacked Illz, prompting Rocky to fire the gun in an attempt to diffuse the situation.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, the defence argued that the gun in question was a prop and not a real firearm. The absence of physical evidence, such as the prop gun, raised questions about the validity of the prosecution’s claims.
As the trial continues, both sides are presenting their arguments, with Deputy District Attorney John Lewin probing Twelvvy about his relationship with Rocky and Rihanna. The testimony from Twelvvy and other witnesses will play a crucial role in determining the outcome of the trial.
The saga of A$AP Rocky’s trial continues to unfold, with twists and turns that keep the public on edge. As the legal proceedings progress, the truth behind the 2021 altercation will hopefully come to light, providing clarity on the events that transpired on that fateful Hollywood street.
