Chebet followed closely behind, finishing just six seconds later.

Reflecting on his historic win, Nageeye expressed his disbelief, stating, “At the finish I was like, am I dreaming? I won New York.” This victory marked a significant milestone for Nageeye, who had previously participated in the New York race three times, with his best finish being third place in 2022. Familiar with the course, Nageeye strategically focused on maintaining his strength and energy for the crucial final stretch, likening his approach to that of a cyclist.

Canadian runner Rory Linkletter also made headlines by setting a new Canadian men’s record in the event, completing the marathon in an impressive time of 2:11:42. Linkletter’s determination and perseverance paid off as he achieved a personal milestone in his running career.

In the women’s race, Sheila Chepkirui emerged victorious in her debut at the New York City Marathon, overtaking defending champion Hellen Obiri in the closing stages of the race. Chepkirui, who transitioned to marathon running in 2022, demonstrated her competitive spirit and determination as she crossed the finish line in 2:24:35, securing a well-deserved win. Obiri finished nearly 15 seconds behind, failing to defend her title.

The event also witnessed notable performances from other top contenders, including Tamirat Tola, the men’s defending champion and Paris Olympic gold medalist, who finished fourth. Tola, despite his impressive credentials, faced challenges on the demanding course, citing muscle fatigue as a limiting factor in his performance.
