Acadia University President Peter Ricketts resigns

WOLFVILLE, NS — President and Vice Chancellor of Acadia University Peter Ricketts will step down Friday, June 30 at the end of his six-year term.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank President Ricketts for his leadership over the past six years,” said Board Chairman Henry Demone. “He worked tirelessly to advance Acadia’s academic mission and strengthen our impact in the community, across the region and beyond.”

During his tenure, Ricketts completed Campaign for Acadia’s campaign fundraising initiative, led the university during the pandemic, and formed partnerships with the City of Wolfville and Glooscap First Nations.

Ricketts has also served several organizations, including the Maple League of Universities.

He said the past few weeks have been bittersweet for him.

“My term as Acadia’s leader has been the honor of a lifetime, and it’s hard to imagine not a day where I think about Acadia,” Ricketts said.

“I will miss the spirit of this special community and the incredible people who choose to be part of the Acadia family.”

The university is looking for a new chairman and will soon announce interim plans.
