Ackerman tops Purcell in clash of unbeaten skips at Canadian Mixed Curling Championship

Jason Ackerman’s team from the Highland Curling Club in Regina continues to dominate at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship being held at the St. Catharines Golf and Country Club. With a perfect record of 4-0, Ackerman, along with his talented teammates Amber Holland, Sam Wills, and Colleen Ackerman, are showing why they are a force to be reckoned with in the competition.
In their latest match on Tuesday afternoon, Ackerman’s team faced off against Owen Purcell’s crew from the Halifax Curling Club. In a thrilling game that came down to the wire, Ackerman’s team managed to secure a 6-3 victory by scoring three crucial points in the eighth end. This win solidified their position at the top of Pool A, with Purcell’s team falling to second place with a 4-1 record.
Meanwhile, Ryan Wiebe’s team from the Fort Rouge Curling Club in Winnipeg also had a successful outing, narrowly defeating Don Bowser of Quebec with a score of 5-4. This victory propelled Wiebe’s team into a tie for first place in Pool B, alongside Bowser, who also boasts a 4-1 record. Kurt Alan Balderston’s Grande Prairie team from Alberta also had a strong showing, overpowering Jamie Koe of the Northwest Territories with a convincing 10-3 win in just six ends. This impressive performance moved Balderston’s team into second place in Pool B with a 3-1 record.
In another exciting match, Trent Skanes of Newfoundland and Labrador managed to edge out Dylan Johnston of Northern Ontario with a score of 9-7, improving their record to 3-1 and securing third place in Pool A.
