Actor Michelle Trachtenberg died of complications from diabetes: medical examiner

The entertainment industry was shocked by the news of actor Michelle Trachtenberg’s untimely death, which was revealed to be a result of complications from diabetes, according to New York City’s medical examiner. The 39-year-old native of New York City, known for her roles in popular TV shows like “Gossip Girl,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” and “Harriet the Spy,” was found unconscious and unresponsive in her Manhattan apartment back in February.

Initially, officials stated that no foul play was suspected, and her cause of death was listed as “undetermined.” Trachtenberg’s family had requested no autopsy, which was respected by the medical examiner’s office due to the absence of any evidence of criminal activity.

Famous celebrities like Sarah Michelle Gellar, Taylor Momsen, and Blake Lively expressed their grief over Trachtenberg’s passing. Trachtenberg’s acting career began at a young age when she portrayed Nona Mecklenberg on Nickelodeon’s “The Adventures of Pete & Pete” from 1994 to 1996. She later appeared in film adaptations of “Harriet the Spy” and “Inspector Gadget.”

In 2000, Trachtenberg joined the cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” as Dawn Summers, the younger sister of the titular character portrayed by Sarah Michelle Gellar. She also had recurring roles in shows like “Six Feet Under,” “Weeds,” and “Gossip Girl,” where she played the conniving Georgina Sparks. Trachtenberg made a comeback in the 2021 revival of “Gossip Girl” as one of the original series’ stars to make guest appearances.

Throughout her career, Trachtenberg’s talent shone in various projects, including the 2004 teen comedy “EuroTrip” and the 2009 film “17 Again” alongside Zac Efron and Leslie Mann.
