Adisa De Rosario follows family legacy with Toronto FC 1st-team deal

Toronto FC has recently announced that goalkeeper Adisa De Rosario, the son of former TFC captain and Canada Soccer Hall of Famer Dwayne De Rosario, has signed a first-team contract as a homegrown player through 2026 with club options for 2027 and 2028. This exciting news means that Toronto FC will have another De Rosario wearing first-team colors this year.

At just 20 years old, Adisa De Rosario has already made a name for himself in the soccer world. He becomes the 35th player in club history to sign for the first team from the academy. Adisa, whose TFC 2 contract expired at the end of last year, will be joining the likes of Sean Jonson and Luka Gavran on the goalkeeper depth chart.

Toronto FC’s General Manager, Jason Hernandez, expressed his excitement about having Adisa on the first-team roster, stating, “We’re very excited to have Adisa as a part of the first-team roster. He has worked extremely hard throughout his time in the academy and TFC II, and we’re looking forward to continuing to provide opportunities for him to develop and grow.”

Adisa De Rosario has already showcased his skills, recording 55 saves through 25 appearances since joining TFC II in March 2023. He also spent time on loan with York United FC of the Canadian Premier League in the same year, where he made four appearances.

Adisa’s journey in soccer began in 2015 when he joined the Toronto academy, playing across multiple age groups. In 2022, he signed a short-term development deal with the CPL’s Halifax Wanderers, making his professional debut against Forge FC on Oct. 9, 2022.

Interestingly, Adisa’s older brother, Osaze De Rosario, also made waves in the soccer world by joining the Tacoma Defiance of the MLS Next Pro league from York last March. Their father, Dwayne De Rosario, is a legendary figure in Major League Soccer, having won the MLS Cup four times and earning numerous accolades throughout his career.

Dwayne De Rosario, affectionately known as DeRo, had two stints with Toronto FC and also played for San Jose, Houston, the New York Red Bulls, and D.C. United. He retired with 103 goals and 76 assists in 341 career MLS regular-season games, leaving a lasting legacy in the soccer community.

Adisa De Rosario’s soccer journey began in San Jose, where his father played for the San Jose Earthquakes. With his talent and determination, Adisa is poised to make a name for himself in the soccer world and continue the De Rosario family legacy. Toronto FC fans can look forward to seeing Adisa in action and witnessing his growth and development on the field.
