Affordability, housing and health care are top voter concerns in Sydney-Glace Bay

The federal election campaign is in full swing in the newly redrawn riding of Sydney-Glace Bay, with signs up and candidates hitting the pavement to connect with voters. Liberal candidate Mike Kelloway, who previously represented Cape Breton-Canso, is now vying for votes in this more urban district.
Kelloway, who hails from Glace Bay, spoke passionately about his roots in the area and his commitment to serving the community. He emphasized the importance of addressing bread and butter issues like affordability, housing, and healthcare, which are top concerns for many residents in the riding. With the population of Sydney-Glace Bay surpassing 82,000 people, Kelloway is focused on engaging with voters and addressing their needs.
On the other side of the political spectrum, NDP candidate Kimberly Losier is running on a platform of tackling the rising cost of living. As a credit union employee, Losier believes she has the expertise to create a strong economic plan that will help residents make ends meet. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that paychecks cover bills and alleviating the financial stress that many families face.
Conservative candidate Anna Manley, a lawyer and business owner, declined an interview but shared her vision for the riding during a recent debate. She expressed a desire to build a Cape Breton of opportunity where her children would want to stay and thrive. Manley highlighted affordability as a key issue and touted the Conservatives as the party best positioned to lead Canadians toward a more prosperous future.
In addition to the major party candidates, there are several other contenders in the race for Sydney-Glace Bay, including Independent Joe Ward, Jeffrey Evely of the People’s Party, Libertarian Michael Pittman, Chris Gallant of the Canadian Future Party, and Marxist-Leninist candidate Nik Boisvert. Each candidate brings their own perspective and priorities to the table, offering voters a diverse range of choices in this election.
As the campaign heats up and election day draws near, residents of Sydney-Glace Bay can expect to see more debates, canvassing, and engagement from the candidates vying for their support. With a mix of experienced incumbents and fresh faces in the running, voters have the opportunity to weigh their options and choose the candidate who best represents their interests and values.
