Afghan withdrawal 4-year anniversary remembered by rescue veterans

Veterans who risked their lives to rescue civilians trapped in Afghanistan are speaking out on the four-year anniversary of the U.S. withdrawal from the country. Dennis Price, a special operations forces (SOF) veteran and founder of “Heroes for Humanity,” worked tirelessly to rescue many trapped in the newly-Taliban-controlled territory.
Price reflected on the disastrous Afghan withdrawal carried out by the previous administration, stating that the failure will haunt thousands and the stories of those left behind will forever be remembered. He emphasized that when the government failed Afghanistan, it was the patriots who carried the weight.
During the official U.S. withdrawal, Price’s group helped rescue its first civilian dual-citizen family out of Kandahar Province and into Kabul, narrowly escaping the Abbey Gate bombing that killed 13 American service members. The family made it through the gate just 45 minutes before it exploded – a moment Price described as being truly by the grace of God.
Retired Force Recon Marine Chad Robichaux joined Price in traveling deeper into Taliban territory to rescue Arabic-English interpreters left behind. Despite leading the largest civilian rescue mission that evacuated over 17,000 people in 10 days, Robichaux still feels the weight of those left behind.
Retired Marine Mark “Oz” Geist, who survived the 2012 Benghazi siege, was also involved in the rescue efforts in Kabul. Geist’s group, Shadow Warriors Project, successfully rescued Afghan women and children, but he still carries the faces of those they couldn’t save.
The efforts of these veterans, along with others like Navy SEAL Jason Redman and Rep. Cory Mills, showcased the dedication and bravery of those who risked their lives to save others in the chaos of the Afghanistan withdrawal. They emphasized the importance of never forgetting the sacrifice made and continuing to fight for freedom.
As Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth investigates the Pentagon’s failings in the 2021 withdrawal, these veterans remain hopeful for accountability and justice for the heroes who lost their lives in the mission to rescue those stranded in Afghanistan. Their actions serve as a reminder of the value of freedom and the importance of protecting it for all people, regardless of their background or beliefs. Attention all story enthusiasts!
