Al Green hit with censure resolutions after interrupting Trump speech

Rep. Troy Nehls, a Republican from Texas, is taking action to reprimand Rep. Al Green, a Democrat from Texas, for his disruptive behavior during President Donald Trump’s speech. Nehls is leading the charge on a censure resolution against Green, accusing him of willfully disrupting the joint session and bringing disrepute to the United States Congress.
Green, a 77-year-old Democrat, was removed from Trump’s address after repeatedly interrupting the president’s speech by shouting, “You have no mandate.” Speaker Mike Johnson had Green escorted out of the chamber by the U.S. Sergeant-At-Arms. Despite being removed, Green remained defiant and expressed his willingness to accept any punishment for his actions.
In response to Green’s behavior, Republican lawmakers, including members of the House Freedom Caucus, have condemned his actions and announced their plans to file their own censure resolution against him. House GOP Policy Committee Chair Kevin Hern called the Democrats’ behavior “ridiculous” and emphasized the need for consequences for Green’s outburst.
Additionally, Rep. Buddy Carter expressed disappointment in the Democrats’ behavior and stressed the importance of maintaining decorum and respect for the Office of the Presidency. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise indicated that leadership would consider taking action against Green, with Speaker Johnson signaling his support for such measures.
While Fox News Digital reached out to Green’s office for a response, there has been no immediate reply. The situation continues to unfold as lawmakers navigate the aftermath of Green’s disruptive actions.
