Alberta sending 40 wildland firefighters early next week to help with L.A. wildfires

Alberta has confirmed that it will be sending 40 wildland firefighters early next week to assist in combating the devastating fires that have been ravaging Los Angeles County. These fires have already claimed the lives of 11 people and destroyed over 10,000 structures.

Minister of Forestry and Parks, Todd Loewen, took to social media to announce the province’s support for California’s firefighting efforts. He reassured the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services that Alberta is ready to provide assistance. Loewen also mentioned that additional firefighters, personnel, and support staff are on standby in case California requests further aid.

In addition to the deployment of firefighters, Calgary charity Parachutes for Pets has also stepped up to offer assistance. The organization announced that it will be sending donations and volunteers to help with the wildfire response efforts in California. A private plane loaded with supplies and volunteers is set to depart early Sunday morning to provide relief to those on the ground.

Alberta is not stopping at sending just firefighters and volunteers. The province is also preparing to send water bombers, night-vision helicopters, and incident command team support to aid in the firefighting operations. Premier Danielle Smith emphasized the importance of being good neighbors and expressed Alberta’s commitment to assisting our American friends during this crisis. The province is working closely with the federal government and the Canadian Interagency Forest Fire Centre to assess California’s needs and provide the necessary support.

The outpouring of support from Alberta to California showcases the importance of solidarity and cooperation in times of crisis. By working together and offering assistance, we can help mitigate the impact of these devastating wildfires and ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.
