Americans for Prosperity to target competitive House districts in support of Trump tax cuts

Americans for Prosperity (AFP) is gearing up for a day of action on Saturday in key congressional districts across the country. The conservative advocacy group is joining forces with GOP Representatives from Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, and Pennsylvania to rally support for extending President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA).
As House Republicans work on finalizing Trump’s proposed “big, beautiful bill,” AFP is mobilizing grassroots efforts to encourage constituents to urge their senators and representatives to extend the tax cuts. AFP’s Managing Director, Kent Strang, emphasized the importance of renewing Trump’s tax cuts for working families and small businesses.
In conjunction with their $20 million “Protect Prosperity” campaign, AFP is making a significant investment to preserve the TCJA. The group is urging Republicans to offset budget cuts by eliminating aspects of President Joe Biden’s “Green New Deal giveaways.” This comes as House Republicans consider alternative ways to fund Trump’s proposed tax cuts.
House Republicans, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, have been engaged in negotiations regarding the budget reconciliation process. Despite initial discussions of a potential tax hike on millionaires, Trump has signaled his support for such a measure. However, recent developments indicate that House Republicans may be moving away from including a tax hike in the legislation.
AFP’s focus on competitive districts in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, and Pennsylvania is strategic, as these areas are expected to see contentious races in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections. Representatives like Juan Ciscomani, David Schweikert, Ashley Hinson, Tom Barrett, and Ryan Mackenzie will be key players in defending their seats and promoting Trump’s tax cuts.
In Arizona’s sixth congressional district, Ciscomani narrowly secured his seat in 2022, while Schweikert faced a tough battle in Arizona’s first congressional district. Hinson, who won by a significant margin in Iowa’s second congressional district, is already facing a challenge from Democrat Kevin Techau. Meanwhile, Barrett and Mackenzie successfully flipped their districts from blue to red in 2024, making them targets for Democrats in the upcoming election.
As AFP and House Republicans push for the extension of Trump’s tax cuts, the political landscape is heating up in anticipation of the 2026 midterms. With significant investments and grassroots efforts, both parties are gearing up for a fierce battle to shape the future of tax policy in the United States.
