Andrew Bailey becomes FBI’s first-ever second deputy director under Trump

Fox News is reporting that the FBI will welcome a second deputy director for the first time in its history on Monday. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is resigning from his position to join the bureau, where he will serve as co-deputy director alongside Dan Bongino. The pair will report to FBI Director Kash Patel in an unprecedented setup that comes as President Donald Trump is placing a new emphasis on federal law enforcement.
Bailey made national headlines as Missouri’s AG for opposing former President Joe Biden’s efforts to wipe away student debt and working to curb Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs at major companies. He also launched an anti-human trafficking task force and cleared the backlog of Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence kits in Missouri.
Senator Josh Hawley praised Bailey’s hiring, saying, “Andrew Bailey is going to be terrific at the FBI. He’s been a stand-out prosecutor for Missouri. Now he will bring all those skills to bear for the country.”
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed Bailey’s hiring last month as Trump launched a federal takeover of Washington, D.C. and his national crime crackdown. Bondi expressed excitement about Bailey joining the FBI, calling him a distinguished state attorney general and decorated war veteran.
The hiring of Bailey comes amid controversy within the FBI regarding the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Sources say that Bongino has been deeply frustrated, leading to rumors of his potential resignation. Bongino reportedly clashed with Bondi over the handling of a public memo on Epstein’s case, citing a lack of transparency.
Despite the rumors, Bongino remains at the FBI as of now. The situation continues to evolve, and Fox News will provide updates as more information becomes available.
