Social media erupts after AOC debuts another ‘strange’ accent at rally

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is no stranger to controversy, and this week was no exception. The progressive congresswoman from New York faced backlash from conservatives on social media after they accused her of putting on a fake accent at a rally in Nampa, Idaho.
Ocasio-Cortez, alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders, drew a crowd of over 12,000 people at the rally, but it was a particular clip of her speech that caught the attention of conservatives. They accused her of deliberately changing her tone of voice to appeal to the demographic she was speaking to.
Conservative influencers took to social media to criticize Ocasio-Cortez for what they perceived as her attempt to mimic different accents. Gunther Eagleman tweeted, “Oh look, AOC is doing the interchangeable accents to fit the demographic she’s in front of. Did she take notes from Kamala?” Another influencer, Benny Johnson, posted, “Kamala Harris just introduced yet another new accent. Sike, this is AOC. Seems to be using Kamala’s playbook. I guess she didn’t pay attention during the 2024 election.”
Townhall.com also chimed in, saying, “AOC is pretending to have some sort of strange accent. This is exactly what Kamala Harris did on the campaign trail. Why do they do this?” While Breaking 911 tweeted, “WATCH: AOC debuts new accent ahead of reported Presidential run. It’s worse than Kamala’s or Hillary.”
The comparisons to Kamala Harris stem from the former Vice President’s own controversies on the campaign trail last year, where she was criticized for using different accents while speaking to different crowds.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders have been on a nationwide tour as part of their “Fighting Oligarchy” campaign, where they have been critical of Tesla CEO Elon Musk and the Trump administration. Sanders, 83, told the crowd at a rally in Los Angeles that their presence was making Donald Trump and Elon Musk nervous, with about 36,000 people in attendance.
The duo has held rallies in various cities, including Las Vegas, Tempe, Tucson, Denver, and Greeley, with more events scheduled in the future.
Despite the backlash, Ocasio-Cortez remains undeterred in her efforts to advocate for progressive policies and hold powerful figures accountable. Fox News Digital reached out to her office for comment, but she has yet to respond.
In conclusion, while Ocasio-Cortez’s accent at the rally may have sparked controversy, it is clear that her message and activism continue to resonate with a significant portion of the American public. As she and Sanders continue their campaign against oligarchy and corporate influence, it remains to be seen how their efforts will shape the political landscape moving forward.
