Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff to Headline National Bank Open in Montreal
Tennis Canada announced Thursday that Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff will headline a star-studded women’s field for the upcoming National Bank Open in Montreal. The event, set to take place at IGA Stadium, will feature the world No. 1 and No. 2, along with two-time defending champion Jessica Pegula.
This year’s tournament will see the largest main draw in its history, with the top 68 WTA competitors set to compete in the 96-player field. The annual showcase has also shifted to a new 12-day format, allowing for more exciting matches and opportunities for fans to witness top-level tennis.
Sabalenka, a three-time Grand Slam champion, has had an impressive season so far with a 44-8 record. She claimed victories in Miami and Madrid, as well as a runner-up finish at the French Open. Gauff, on the other hand, has a 31-10 record in 2025 and secured her second Grand Slam title by defeating Sabalenka at Roland-Garros.
Canadian tennis fans will have plenty to cheer for as well, with Leylah Fernandez, Victoria Mboko, and Bianca Andreescu all set to compete in the main draw. Pegula, who made history by winning back-to-back titles at the NBO, will be looking to continue her winning streak after claiming titles in Charleston, Austin, and Bad Homburg this season.
Several other top-ranked players, including Iga Swiatek, Jasmine Paolini, and Madison Keys, will also be vying for the title in Montreal. Past Canadian champions Elina Svitolina and Belinda Bencic, as well as Wimbledon winners Barbora Krejcikova, Marketa Vondrousova, and Elena Rybakina, are among the other notable names set to compete.
The tournament will kick off with qualifying rounds on July 26, followed by main-draw play from July 27 to August 7. The top 32 seeds will receive first-round byes, with their matches scheduled to begin on July 29 or July 30.
