Atlanta United ‘keeper Jayden Hibbert to become a member of Canada for September friendly competitions

Canada Coach Jesse Marsch is faced with a goalkeeper dilemma as he prepares for upcoming matches against Romania and Wales in the September FIFA International window. With Dayne St. Clair and Maxime Crepeau sharing the starting role in recent months, Marsch is eager to find his number one goalkeeper.

Atlanta United goalkeeper Jayden Hibbert has been called up to the camp, and Marsch sees the young talent as a potential future star. Born in New Jersey to a Canadian mother and Jamaican father, Hibbert made his debut for Jamaica in 2024 but is now eligible to play for Canada.

Marsch is confident that Hibbert’s commitment to representing Canada is strong, despite interest from Jamaica. The 21-year-old impressed in his recent MLS start, keeping a clean sheet against Toronto FC.

Canada will face Romania and Wales in September before upcoming matches against Australia and Colombia. Marsch is focused on strengthening the team’s leadership and mentality as they prepare for the World Cup.

Several Canadian players have been making an impact with their clubs, including Jonathan David and Nathan Saliba scoring for Juventus and Belgium. Winger Tajon Buchanan scored a hat trick for Villarreal CF, while Ismaël Koné is on loan at Sassuolo from Marseille.

The squad for the upcoming matches includes a mix of MLS and European-based players, with the return of veteran attacker Junior Hoilett. Marsch has opted to leave out experienced players like Jonathan Osorio and Kamal Miller in favor of younger talent for the European fixtures.

With 13 players aged 25 or younger, Marsch is looking to build a strong foundation for the future of Canadian soccer. As they aim to secure victories against Romania and Wales, Canada is focused on continuing their progress towards the World Cup.
