B12 gummy vitamins recalled nationwide due to undeclared peanut allergen

Vitamin supplements are a popular way for people to ensure they are getting all the essential nutrients they need for optimal health. However, a recent recall of various B12 gummy vitamin products has highlighted the importance of reading labels carefully, especially for those with food allergies.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that Vita Warehouse Corp., the maker of the products distributed under the brand names Welby, Berkley Jensen, and VitaGlobe, has issued a voluntary recall of one lot of Vitamin B12 Energy Support gummies due to the “potential presence of undeclared peanuts.” This undeclared allergen could pose a serious risk to individuals with peanut allergies, potentially leading to life-threatening allergic reactions.

The affected products were distributed at Aldi and BJ’s retail stores nationwide, as well as online at various websites including aldi.us, bjs.com, vitaglobe.com, and Amazon. The recall includes the following products:

– Welby-brand Vitamin B12 Energy Support gummy product 1000 mcg 140 gummies
– Berkley Jensen Vitamin B12 1000 mcg 250 Gummies
– VitaGlobe Vitamin B12 Extra Strength 60 Gummies

Consumers are advised to check the bottom of the bottles for the lot number and expiration date to determine if their product is part of the recall. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported as of June 12, but consumers with a peanut allergy who have purchased these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard them immediately.

The recall was initiated after routine testing by Aldi revealed a potential presence of a peanut allergen in the products, despite the absence of peanuts being claimed on the product labeling. While internal testing by Vita Warehouse Corp. confirmed the absence of peanuts, the recall was initiated out of an abundance of caution to ensure consumer safety.
