Banting Robotics Team heading to Germany for world’s largest tech trade show
The Banting Memorial High School robotics team, also known as Team 7200, has been making waves internationally as they have been invited to showcase their innovative work on a global stage. The group of high school students from Alliston, Ont., will proudly represent Canada at Hannover Messe, the world’s largest trade fair held in Hanover, Germany, which highlights cutting-edge technologies from over 4,000 vendors across 150 countries and attracts around 150,000 attendees.
As Canada is the partner host country for this prestigious event, Team 7200 is gearing up to create an interactive booth that embodies a distinctly Canadian experience for visitors. Bryan Haas, the Banting Robotics teacher and team lead mentor, emphasized the importance of showcasing youth education in technology fields at such a prominent platform like Hannover Messe.
The star of the show will be ‘Goalia,’ the team’s remarkable robot goalie made from lightweight and durable materials, giving it a uniquely Canadian touch. Haas mentioned that they are currently in the process of rebuilding the goalie, utilizing broken hockey sticks for the construction to enhance its performance and aesthetics.
With over 70 Canadian companies participating in the 2024 trade show, the Banting students are eager to make their mark at the 2025 event scheduled from March 31 to April 4. This opportunity not only allows them to demonstrate their technical skills but also promotes the importance of STEM education among young individuals.
In conclusion, the Banting Memorial High School robotics team’s journey to Hannover Messe signifies a remarkable achievement that highlights Canada’s prowess in technology and innovation. Stay tuned for updates on their incredible showcase at this globally renowned trade fair.
