Barger’s hits helps Blue Jays Rally to beat Minnesota Twins 9-8

The Toronto Blue Jays pulled off a thrilling 9-8 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday evening, thanks to a clutch two-run double by Addison Barger in the eighth inning.

The Blue Jays found themselves trailing 8-6 heading into the bottom of the eighth, but a pinch-hit home run by Ty France narrowed the gap to just one run. Pinch-hitter Alejandro Kirk followed with a single, setting the stage for Barger’s game-changing double to right field off reliever Génesis Cabrera.

Davis Schneider had a standout performance for the Blue Jays, hitting two home runs in the game. Andrés Giménez also contributed with a home run of his own. The Blue Jays improved their record to an impressive 58-4 when scoring five or more runs in a game.

On the pitching side, Seranthony Domínguez earned the win, while Jeff Hoffman recorded his 29th save of the season.

Byron Buxton was a standout for the Twins, hitting two solo home runs in the game. Brooks Lee and Luke Keaschall also added solo shots for Minnesota. Buxton’s leadoff home run in the first inning was his 16th career leadoff homer, and he went deep again in the third inning for his 26th and 27th homers of the season.

A key moment in the game came in the third inning when Toronto’s Dulton Varsho made a spectacular jumping catch to rob Lee of a hit.

The Twins extended their club-record home run streak to 23 games, hitting a total of 45 home runs at Rogers Center since August 26, 2017.

Looking ahead, the Twins are set to face the San Diego Padres with RHP Zebby Matthews on the mound, while the Blue Jays will take on the Milwaukee Brewers with RHP Shane Bieber expected to start against Freddy Peralta.
