Baseball legend Rickey Henderson, known for his record-breaking stolen bases and impressive career spanning 25 seasons, passed away at the age of 65 after battling pneumonia. Henderson, a 10-time All-Star, made his mark in the MLB by stealing a total of 1,406 bases, surpassing Lou Brock’s previous record.
In addition to his base-stealing prowess, Henderson also displayed power at the plate, hitting 297 home runs and driving in 1,115 RBIs. His 81 leadoff home runs remain a major league record to this day.
Hailing from Oakland, California, Henderson was drafted by the Athletics in 1976 and quickly made his mark in the league, earning his first All-Star selection in 1980. Throughout his career, he played for several teams including the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays.
