BC highway patrol officer charged in accident last summer

The British Columbia Prosecution Service says an RCMP highway patrol officer is facing two charges under the Motor Vehicle Act following an accident last year.

A statement from the agency says the crash occurred on July 10 in the community of Okanagan Falls, south of Penticton.

The officer was charged with failing to stop at a stop sign and driving without due caution and attention.

The first hearing is scheduled for July 19 in Penticton County Court.

The prosecution says the charges were approved by a crown lawyer who had no connection with the officer.

It has not released any further information about the case.

This report from The Canadian Press was first published on June 22, 2023.
