Benjamin Netanyahu successfully undergoes major prostate surgery after UTI diagnosis

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underwent successful surgery on Sunday to have his prostate removed after suffering from a urinary tract infection. The infection was attributed to a benign enlargement of his prostate, according to Netanyahu’s office. The surgery was deemed successful and without complications, with Netanyahu waking up from anesthesia in good condition and fully conscious. He has been transferred to a secure underground recovery unit for observation in the coming days.
Netanyahu, who has undergone several health procedures in the past two years, had hernia surgery in March and was briefly replaced by Deputy Prime Minister Yariv Levin. In July 2023, he was hospitalized for dehydration after visiting the Sea of Galilee without water or sun protection during a heatwave. Additionally, a pacemaker was implanted a week later to regulate his heart rate and rhythm.
The recent surgery comes as Netanyahu, 75, continues to testify in a corruption case against him in Israel. He took the stand earlier in December and is expected to continue testifying in the new year. Despite his health challenges, Netanyahu remains actively involved in leading the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) in targeting Iranian terrorists and their proxies across the Middle East.
In recent developments, the IDF launched strikes against Houthi rebels, targeting Sanaa International Airport in Yemen and Houthi infrastructure in various ports. The ongoing military operations underscore Netanyahu’s commitment to national security despite his health concerns.
