Bernie Sanders, AOC, take aim at Trump and Musk, as well as Democrats, at western rallies
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, both prominent figures on the left, have been on a three-day tour through western states, where they have been targeting President Donald Trump and his billionaire ally Elon Musk. The duo has been rallying against what they see as attacks on working and middle-class Americans, criticizing the administration for prioritizing tax cuts for the wealthy over essential services like healthcare and social security.
In a fiery speech in Las Vegas, Ocasio-Cortez accused Trump and his Republican allies of deceiving the American people and pushing an agenda that benefits the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. Sanders, meanwhile, emphasized the importance of pushing back against Trump’s attempts to consolidate power and move the country towards an oligarchy.
But the criticism wasn’t reserved solely for Republicans. Ocasio-Cortez also called out the Democratic Party, urging them to fight harder for the working class and resist the Republican majority in Congress. She stressed the need for voters to support Democratic candidates who are willing to stand up to the GOP and fight for progressive values.
The tour, dubbed “Fighting Oligarchy,” has been drawing large crowds, with thousands turning out to hear Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders speak. The duo’s next stops include Denver and Greeley, Colorado, before concluding with a rally in Tucson, Arizona.
The tour comes at a time of growing tensions within the Democratic Party, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer facing criticism for his support of a recent federal funding bill that averted a government shutdown. While Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders did not directly address Schumer during their speeches, some attendees at the rallies expressed disappointment in his leadership.
Overall, Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders are emphasizing the need for a more aggressive approach to fighting back against the Trump administration and its allies. They are calling on Democrats to unite and stand up for the working class, rather than capitulating to pressure from the president and his supporters.
As Sanders declared in his speech, “We are going to fight Trump and his oligarchy friends. From the bottom of my heart, I am convinced that they can be defeated.” The message is clear – it’s time for Democrats to step up and take on the challenges facing the country, no matter how powerful their opponents may seem.
